HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half of Saturday's match was a scoreless effort for both teams as they battled through the rain. Methodist placed three shots on goal that were all saved while the Knights recorded two shots on goal that were saved by goalkeeper Trey Gohr.
- In the 27th minute, a soft pass from Sean Laney gave freshman Joshua Mott a clear shot at the goal from the top of the box. His shot – just out of the keeper's reach – hit the crossbar and bounded away from the net.
- The Monarchs started the second half strong with a goal in the 49th minute by Casey Atwell, who received a pass from Steven Floyd as the duo charged toward the Knights' goalkeeper.
- Atwell notched a second goal just past the 54' mark, as Christopher Shoffler's corner kick was dummied by Caleb Mott, who pretended to be receiving the incoming ball. The ball passed by Mott, rolling to the top of the box where Atwell drove his right foot into it and watched it soar into the net over the keeper who was unable to react in time.
- In the final moments of the match, Gohr recorded a third save on a last-second shot by the Knights to preserve the shutout.
