Records: Methodist 8-3-2 (4-1 USA South); N.C. Wesleyan 6-6-2 (4-1)
Location: Duggins Soccer Stadium; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • N.C. Wesleyan registered the first goal of the contest in the 22nd minute. Bastien Dechamps kicked the ball into the back-right corner of the net after receiving a pass from teammate Pierre Leo.
  • Just before intermission, 55 seconds left, Joshua Mott recorded the equalizer for Methodist. After a corner kick, a Battling Bishop defender tried to kick the ball away but J. Mott prevented that and then he made a quick turn & kick past the goalie, from five yards out.
  • The Monarchs took the lead in the 65th minute, when Christopher Shoffler left footed his shot toward the net. N.C. Wesleyan's keeper initially deflected the shot but was unable to secure the ball and it would roll into the net. Hudson Zeisman assisted on the play off a thrown in.
  • Ten minutes later, 75th minute, Matthew Manzano scored an insurance goal for Methodist. A double pass from Shoffler and Caleb Mott, both credited with an assist, got to Manzano at the top of the box. From there he was able to get a step on the defender next to him and shoot the ball into the net.
NUMBERS
  • That goal by Manzano was the first one of his collegiate career.
  • The Battling Bishops generated more shots, 12 to ten, but the Monarchs were slightly more accurate with five being on target compared to N.C. Wesleyan's two.
