VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Facing a foe from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the Methodist men's basketball team dropped Wednesday's contest to Virginia Wesleyan by a score of 61-48. Though the Monarchs held a slim edge at halftime, the Marlins maintained their undefeated status to improve to 4-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- As Virginia Wesleyan missed its first six shots of the game, the Monarchs worked their way to a 5-0 lead. After nearly five scoreless minutes for the home team, the Marlins sank a three-pointer to pull within two. The teams exchanged two-point baskets next before Joey McMullin and De'Shaun Kee drilled back-to-back threes to build the Methodist lead up to eight points.
- Virginia Wesleyan answered with an 11-0 run, which included seven successful free throws. The Monarchs scored the next five to retake a two-point advantage (18-16) with under six minutes left in the half. The Marlins would tie the score three more times before Methodist's Chance Minott dropped in the final bucket of the period to give the Monarchs a 24-22 halftime lead.
- Methodist's D.J. Squire started off the second half by making a three-point basket for his first points of the season. The Marlins returned a three ball before Zac Sledge flushed the ball in for a dunk in favor of the Monarchs. From there, Virginia Wesleyan recorded 14-straight points to sail to a 39-29 lead with under 13 minutes remaining in the period.
- Virginia Wesleyan's lead grew past 10 points with 8:24 to go, and two minutes later, it had inflated to 17. The Monarchs scored 10 points over the final six minutes, but it wasn't enough to come back against the Marlins.

- Big man Zac Sledge notched his first double-double of the season with team highs of 14 points and 13 rebounds.
- It was truly a tale of two halves as Methodist outshot Virginia Wesleyan in the first half (37.04% versus 21.21%) but then the Marlins were much more efficient than the Monarchs in the second half (50% versus 29.17%).
- Making his first start in a Methodist uniform, Chance Minott recorded season highs in points (9), rebounds (7) and assists (3).
