HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions began the game shooting 6-for-8 from the floor, only attempting two-pointers on their way to a 12-2 lead. Ryan Jolly hit the first three of the game to increase Piedmont's lead, now 17-4 with 12 and a half minutes remaining in the first half. A Derrion Hicklen and-one opportunity shortly thereafter slightly lowered Methodist's deficit (19-8), but the Lions responded with back-to-back three-pointers.
- Hicklen scored seven of his team's next nine points to bring the Monarchs back to within 14 with eight minutes to go, but the Lions drilled another three-pointer as well as three free throws to go up by 20. Methodist's Brian Bullock scored seven of the team's next 12 points while the Lions drilled three-pointers on three-straight offensive possessions on the other end – two of which were scored by Jolly (contributing to his 10 points in the final five minutes of the half) and another in which he assisted on. Zac Sledge snuck in a layup for the Monarchs before the buzzer sounded to make the score 54-37.
- Piedmont opened the second half with a 9-4 run which included the team's eighth three-pointer of the contest. Seven of Methodist's nine points to start the second half were logged by Sledge, who scored a layup and the ensuing free throw after he was fouled to make the score 66-46 in favor of Piedmont just under five minutes into the half. A 14-6 run for the Lions – capped off with a three by Jolly – pushed the score differential to 28 points with just under 11 minutes left to play.
- After checking in late, Ayhem Allan sank just the third three of the game for the Monarchs, while Alex Dawson hit a fadeaway jump shot for Methodist's final basket. Piedmont eclipsed the century mark for the second game in a row and the third time this season.
