Records: Methodist 1-22 (1-11 USA South), Brevard 9-14 (5-7)
Location: Boshamer Gymnasium; Brevard, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tornados made their first six shot attempts of the contest to take a 14-5 lead. Brone Brinson scored four of Methodist's next six points to help keep the Monarchs' deficit under 10 points, but the difference grew to 16 points when Brevard knocked down its fourth three-pointer of the game with just under 10 minutes left in the half.
  • The Monarchs chalked up a 12-2 run to narrow the gap to 32-26 with 5:35 remaining in the first half. Quickly, Brevard sank shots from behind the arc on its ensuing three possessions, lifting the Tornados to a 41-28 lead.
  • Down 45-30, the Monarchs energetically opened the second half with a dunk by T.J. East and a three-pointer by Jeremy Mull. However, the Tornados cranked off a 9-0 run in response. Later, trailing 60-44, Brinson delivered a layup, free throw and three-pointer to pull the Monarchs within 10. Brinson's efforts sparked a 17-6 run that decreased the difference to just 5 points (66-61).
  • The Monarchs kept their foot on the gas, inching to within 4 points of Brevard's lead as Clayton Coe drilled a triple. Brinson sank a free throw to make it a three-point game, but time ran out on Methodist's attempted comeback.
