FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist women's tennis played host to Piedmont University on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference match. The Monarchs did not fare well against former conference opponent as the Lions won 8-1 at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The lone win for Methodist happened in flight No.1 of doubles competition. Toni Laney & Cailin Cifra were able to defeat Briana Laidman & Imani Vincent by a score of 8-4.
- After Piedmont took a 2-1 advantage following doubles action, the Lions swept the Monarchs in singles play. During singles, Laney and Veva Willocks were able to claim a set to force a super tiebreaker.
- Laney played in singles flight one and faced Abbey Grace Venham. The first set would need a tiebreaker to determine a winner, which Venham won 7-6 (7-5). Another tiebreaker was required in the second set with Laney getting the result she was looking for this time, 7-6 (7-4). Venham ultimately won the third set, 10-3, for the win.
- Willocks was matched up against Laidman in No. 6 singles. Willocks won the first set 6-4 before dropping set number two, 6-1. In the super tiebreaker, Laidman would get the victory with a 10-4 decision.

Methodist takes the court again on Wednesday, February 22, with a visit to Guilford College. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
