HOW IT HAPPENED
- Midway through the first quarter, a goal by Kennedy Martin put Methodist up but Berry tied the game just a couple of minutes later with a score from AnnaKate Estock. The Laney High School alums of Martin and Payton Jones tallied the next two goals for the Monarchs before Estock found the back of the net, 3-2, again for the Vikings.
- Not long into the second period, Berry would claim its first lead of the game following goals by Abby Sprayberry and Dani Taraska. The Monarchs would then register the last three goals of the first half on free position shots by Martin, Tia Marlinghaus, and Mikayla Ramos to take a 6-4 advantage.
- The third frame opened up with Sprayberry of the Vikings putting one past the Methodist goalie but the Monarchs went up by two goals again, 7-5, after Layla Wiesenfeld joined in on the scoring. Back-to-back scores by Estock tied the game for Berry and then a goal by Molley Cross gave her team the lead, 8-7. Methodist would tie up the scoreboard thanks to Jones but Sprayberry sneaked one last score for the Vikings to send them into the fourth stanza up 9-8.
- The fourth quarter witnessed the score tied-up on three separate occasions, starting with Kayla Nee scoring for the Monarchs. Goals by Estock (Berry) and Ramos (Methodist) knotted it up at 10-10. A foul by the Monarchs gave the Vikings a free position attempt and Sprayberry capitalized with a goal.
- Berry would win the ensuing draw control but Martin caused a turnover for Methodist and then a foul by the Vikings gave the Monarchs a free position opportunity. On the attempt, Marlinghaus was successful and tied game up 11-11. The upcoming draw control was won by Methodist but a costly turnover gave Berry the ball back and it led to Sprayberry finishing it off with the game-winning goal.
