Monarchs Rout Eagles 15-5

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.  The Methodist baseball team played a neutral site game with Eastern University on Wednesday afternoon, in non-conference action. The Monarchs went on to defeated the Eagles 15-5 on Ebbets Field at the Cal Ripken Experience.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Scoring first in the contest was Eastern in the third inning. The Eagles held a 1-0 advantage following an error to allow the runner at third to score.
  • That lead would last only a half-inning as Methodist tallied five runs in the fourth. With bases loaded, Caleb Greene worked a walked to tie the ballgame then Jackson Deal got a hold of a pitch and sent it over the left center wall for a grand slam.
  • The Monarchs ran wild on the base path during the sixth inning with a pair of runs scoring on stolen bases. The inning ended with Methodist up 8-1 following an RBI by Gavin Wheeler.
  • Sean Cottrell got a run back for the Eagles with his RBI double in the seventh.
  • The eighth and ninth innings saw Methodist tack on seven more runs, 15-2, before David Hunsberger finished off the scoring for Eastern with his three-run homer.

  • The Monarchs utilized seven pitchers, with no arm going more than two innings, in the game. The group allowed five runs, one earned, and struck out seven Eagles.
  • The Eastern pitching staff issued 11 free passes to Methodist.
