MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. The Methodist softball team suffered two losses in the FastPitch Dreams Classic on Saturday, falling 7-2 to The College of New Jersey and 7-5 to the University of Scranton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist got behind early against The College of New Jersey as the Lions scored one run in the first inning and another in the third. The Monarchs evened things up in the fifth inning with two runs of their own – the first scored by Laney Ayres on an RBI single from Haley Downes, and the second scored by Downes on an RBI single by Emily Angel.
- The Lions proceeded to score five unanswered runs (including a two-run homer) as the Monarchs were unable to put any more runs on the board.
- In Methodist's second game of the day, Scranton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. In the bottom of the inning, Haley Fethke produced a score for the Monarchs with an RBI single, and Methodist scored a second run on a pass ball.
- Two extra base hits batted in runs for Scranton in the third, and the Royals pulled out in front, 4-2. In the fourth inning, Methodist picked up one run as Downes was batted in by Alexandra Edwards. The Monarchs kept the momentum churning with two more runs in the fifth as Heather Tsapp drove in a run, then scored on an RBI single by Angel to give Methodist a 5-4 advantage.
- The Monarchs couldn't hold onto the lead, giving up two runs in the sixth inning on an inside-the-park homerun. Methodist conceded another run to the Royals in the seventh inning, resulting in the 7-5 defeat.
NUMBERS
- Haley Fethke and Emily Angel were the only two Monarchs to record a hit in both contests, batting 3-for-7 and 2-for-4 respectively.
- Haley Downes scored a run for Methodist in both games.
- The Monarchs were out-hit 22 to nine between the two games, but did draw seven walks and record three stolen bases.

Methodist remains on the road for their next matchup, traveling to Greensboro for a double-header versus Guilford College on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
