HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a rude awakening for the Monarchs when the Red Dragons seemingly opened the floodgates, scoring the first goal of the match at the ten-minute mark, then piling on the next three over a span of less than 30 seconds. Jesse Leyble made Methodist's presence known as he sprinted towards the goal and found the back of the net for a score, but Oneonta pushed on. Up 7-1, the Red Dragons perfectly passed the ball up the field just in time to score an eighth goal as the horn sounded to signify the end of the first quarter.
- After Oneonta scored the first goal of the second period, Jackson Bulkin entered the game as Methodist's goalkeeper. The Red Dragons scored their tenth goal before RJ Breeden scored on a man-up attempt. Oneonta quickly answered with a score despite being a man down, but Ryan Kavounis wasted no time returning fire for another Methodist goal. The two teams traded goals once more before halftime.
- The Monarchs outscored the Red Dragons 3-2 in the third period, as Hunter Vaughan scored two goals before assisting Cy Horner on a third. On the other end of the field, Bulkin acted as a brick wall, recording six saves.
- Methodist's offense was clicking on all cylinders in the fourth quarter. The Monarchs scored five goals, including a missile from the long stick of Patrick Rowell. Methodist's efforts turned what was once a nine-goal deficit into just a four-goal difference before the Red Dragons added one final score in the final minute of play.
