FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The Methodist men's tennis team hosted Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, claiming one match out of nine. The Monarchs were swept in doubles matches but bested the Marlins in one singles match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Monarchs fell in all three doubles matches but saw close results in two of them. Andrew Wood and Matthew Hurley played their way to an 8-6 final while Wills Belser and Cameron Roth ended with an 8-4 loss.
• Hurley earned the lone win for the Monarchs in the top singles match, posting set victories of 6-3 and 6-4 to take the match.
• Belser (in the two spot) and William Trocchi (in the five spot) tied for Methodist's next best singles performance, both losing competitive sets of 6-3 and 6-4.
