FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist men's tennis team suffered a home defeat to Birmingham-Southern College on Tuesday afternoon, in a non-conference match. The Monarchs were able to squeak one flight win as the Panthers took eight of the other nine flights.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist found itself down 3-0 following doubles play, which was after an intense match on Court 1 between Matthew Hurley & Wills Belser of the Monarchs and Wil Dotson & Tanner DeBardelaben of Birmingham-Southern. This flight came down to the final points before Dotson & DeBardelaben won 8-7.
- The lone singles victory for Methodist came from Hurley in No. 1s action. Hurley was able to seek some revenge on Dotson by taking each set 6-3.
- DeBardelaben and Tom Smith of the Panthers made quick work of Monarchs Evan Kane and Brady Mendler, respectively in singles five and six. This gave BSC a 5-0 lead and secure the match victory.
- On Court 4, Methodist own Will Trocchi fell to Eli Ingleson of the Panthers in two sets (6-0, 6-4). With set scores of 6-1, 6-2, Sam Tolbert won another flight for BSC as he took down Andrew Wood from the Monarchs.
- Belser came close to winning a flight, No. 2, for the Monarchs against Ryan King. King took the first set, 6-2, before Belser won the second set by the same score. It would head to a tie breaker and with a 10-8 final score King claimed victory.

Methodist is right back at it on Wednesday, March 22, with the start of USA South Athletic Conference play against Pfeiffer University. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
