ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. The Methodist women's lacrosse team breezed past North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday, defeating the Battling Bishops 21-4. The Monarchs surged to a 10-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs sprinted out of the gate, racking up five goals in the game's first four minutes. Scores by Keegan Foyles and Ainsley McGinn pushed Methodist to a 7-0 advantage before N.C. Wesleyan finally found the back of the net for their first score.
- Up 10-1, the Monarchs kept pushing ahead, as McGinn, Payton Jones and Kennedy Martin recorded the first three scores of the second quarter. The Battling Bishops scored their second goal of the match with one minute remaining in the period, making the halftime score 13-2 in favor of Methodist.
- Maddie Hagler got the scoring started in the third quarter and was matched with a goal by N.C. Wesleyan. Methodist then collected four more goals in the period, as Mikayla Ramos, Alex Shoffler, Tia Marlinghaus and Hagler all found the back of the net for the Monarchs.
- Methodist outscored the Battling Bishops 3-1 in the fourth quarter. Goals by Foyles and Jones were scored, followed by a score for N. C. Wesleyan, with Macey Blackburn putting the punctuation on the contest with the final goal. Kayla Nee assisted on all three Methodist goals in the fourth quarter.
FAST FACTS
- 21 goals scored is the team's season high, topping the previous high of 19 scored in the opener against Chowan on Feb. 9. The 17-goal margin is also a season-high, besting the 16-goal difference versus Eastern Mennonite on March 6.
- With seven assists, Kayla Nee matched her career-high for assists in a game which she set this season against Marietta.
- The Monarchs out-shot the Battling Bishops 42-16, placing 34 shots on goal to N.C. Wesleyan's eight.
- Ainsley McGinn scored a career-high three goals, giving her a career-high of three points on the day as well. Freshman Maddie Hagler's three goals were also a collegiate best.
