Kicking Off Spring Break with a Win Over Lancaster Bible

HILTON HEAD, S.C.  Methodist women's tennis is on it annul spring break trip and on Monday the team was matched up with Lancaster Bible College, in non-conference play. The Monarchs found themselves back in the win column following a 9-0 victory over the Chargers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both the number one's (Toni Laney & Valeria Matute) and two's (Cailin Cifra & Sydney Bird) won their doubles matches 8-0. Methodist went up 3-0 after Kamdyn Balko & Cameron Kennedy claimed an 8-1 win over Natalie Hoover & Susannah Clawer on Court 3.
  • With matching set scores of 6-0, Megan Kidd of the Monarchs defeated Lancaster Bible's Sierra Hartman on Court 1 to begin singles.
  • Clinching the match for Methodist was Veva Willocks on Court 2. She was victorious (6-1, 6-0) over Jania West, and put the Monarchs up 5-0.
  • Milana Lewis (Court 5) and Hannah Higgins (4) gave Methodist a 7-0 lead with wins against Camryn Burkholder (5) and Alycia Eglauer (4), both set scores were 6-1 in each match.
  • On Court 3, Sydney Bird faced off with Sarah Steckbeck of the Chargers. The two played a couple of good sets but Bird still walked away with the dub (6-3, 6-4).
  • Due to darkness, the match-up between Kennedy and Hoover on Court 6 was changed to an eight-game pro set. With the score tied at 7-7, the match went into a tie breaker and Kennedy prevailed, 7-3, to take the flight 8-7.
UP NEXT
Methodist has one more match scheduled for the trip. A contest against Marietta College on Wednesday with an early start time of 9:30 a.m.
