Methodist Gets Win Over Marietta at PTR Spring Fest

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.  Methodist women's tennis its second non-conference match of the PTR Spring Festival on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Wednesday morning. The Monarchs picked up another victory, 7-2, against the Pioneers on the courts at the Hilton Head Resort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The duo if Calin Cifra & Veva Willocks got the first win for Methodist as they had a clean sheet, 8-0, versus Marietta's Abigail Hartshorn & Parkar Mauk in No. 2 doubles.
  • The Monarchs took a 2-0 advantage with Milana Lewis and Hannah Higgins taking No. 3 doubles over India Flores & Elizabeth Vigue, 8-2, of the Pioneers.
  • The lone doubles win for Marietta came on Court 1 with Isabela Paixao & Ryah Haidar picking up a close 8-6 victory against Methodist's Kamdyn Balko & Meagan Kidd.
  • At Court 5, Sydney Bird, of the Monarchs, and Hartshorn's singles contest was the first one to finish up. Bird came out as the winner after beating Hartshorn 6-3, 6-0 and gave Methodist a 3-1 lead.
  • After falling in doubles action, Kidd would give the Monarchs another dub, 4-1, with her 6-2, 6-0 win over Flores in No. 2 singles.
  • Newcomer Cameron Kennedy ultimately clinched the match for Methodist, 5-1, following her 6-0, 6-4 victory against Vigue on Court 6.
  • The Pioneers second win of the day was thanks to Paixao, in No. 1 singles. With set scores of 6-0, 7-5, she defeated Toni Laney of the Monarchs to make it 5-2.
  • Valeria Matute gave Methodist another win, 6-2. Matute won two straight 6-0 sets as she played Marietta's Haidar on Court 3.
  • Tasting victory herself for the first time today was Balko over at singles No. 4. She defeated Mauk, of the Pioneers, with scores of 6-0, 6-1.
UP NEXT
Methodist will have the next couple of weeks off before starting USA South Athletic Conference play at home against Pfeiffer University. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
