Monarchs Shut Out Tornados in 1-0 Win

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  The performance by Methodist's pitchers proved to be key in securing a win on Tuesday, as Andrew Baur and Ian Bingham combined to pitch a shutout against the visiting Brevard Tornados. The Monarchs scored just one run of their own en route to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Baur tossed six scoreless innings, giving up just four hits and one walk while striking out five batters. The Monarch offense also remained scoreless through six innings, collecting just three hits – one in the second, one in the third, and one in the fifth.
  • Bingham pitched the seventh, allowing just one hit. In the bottom of the inning, Caleb Greene logged a leadoff single, advanced to second on a Caleb Rogers sacrifice bunt, then took third on a wild pitch. With the go-ahead run 90 feet away, Stancil Bowles executed a bunt to the first-base side. The first baseman fielded the ball and threw home, but the throw was not nearly in time to stop Greene, who scored safely.
  • Up 1-0, the Monarchs held the Tornados scoreless in the eighth and ninth behind Bingham's excellent pitching. The sophomore conceded just one hit and one walk to the visitors over his final two frames.

STAT FACTS
  • Caleb Greene was 2-for-3 on the day and scored Methodist's only run. His leadoff single in the seventh placed him in perfect position to be batted in later in the inning.
