Monarchs Victory Over Tornados Puts Them at 7-0 In USA South

BREVARD, N.C.  The Methodist University women's tennis team made a trip out to Brevard College for a USA South Athletic Conference match on Saturday Morning. With a 9-0 match win over the Tornados, the Monarch stay perfect in the conference standings at 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Getting the 3-0 doubles sweep started for Methodist was Kamdyn Balko and Cailin Cifra with an 8-1 victory over the Brevard team of Brooke Garland and Sophie Trantham, on court two. The Monarch pair of Megan Kidd and Valeria Matute claimed an 8-2 win against the Tornados' Hamrick Perry and Savannah Anderson in the flight between No. 3s.
  • Methodist own Toni Laney and Veva Willocks wrapped up No. 1 doubles by beating Hannah Hersh and Alli Kogoy of Brevard 8-4.
  • In straight-set fashion, Kidd won the first singles flight for the Monarchs (6-0, 6-0) after defeating Garland on court three. In No. 6 singles, Willocks was victorious 6-0, 6-2 over Anderson for another Methodist dub.
  • Cifra, of the Monarchs, took down Kogoy (Tornados) 6-0, 6-4 in two sets on court two. No. 4 singles saw Methodist own Matute winning 6-0, 6-3 versus Trantham.
  • No. 1 singles had Laney of the Monarchs squared up with Brevard's Hersh, where Laney won 6-2, 6-3. The closest flight of the day came on court five with Methodist's Luciana Forma facing off against Perry of the Tonados. Perry would win the first set 6-4 before Forma pulled a 6-3 win in set two and then took the flight with a 10-7 victory in the super tiebreaker.
UP NEXT
Methodist is on the road for the last time in the regular season as the team will play North Carolina Wesleyan University, also 7-0 in the USA South, on Tuesday in conference action. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 PM.
