Methodist Explode for 17 Runs Against Mary Baldwin

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  The 20th national ranked Methodist University baseball team finished up its three-game USA South Athletic Conference series with Mary Baldwin University on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs offense was clicking on all cylinders as they mercy ruled, 17-2, the Fighting Squirrels in seven innings at John Moxie Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED  
  • Tyler Morley drove in the only two Mary Baldwin runs back in the first inning off his base hit.
  • After trailing for a couple of innings, Hunter Hollman tied the ballgame up with his 2-RBI single in the third. A successful double steal allowed Gavin Wheeler to reach home plate, while an RBI double by Caleb Green brought in the fourth Methodist run of the inning.
  • The Monarchs tallied their last run in third off a Fighting Squirrel defense miscue to take a 5-2 lead.
  • Methodist added to two runs in the both the fifth and sixth innings to make it 9-2.
  • The seventh saw the Monarchs offense generate eight more runs. Jacob Austin and Hollman recorded two RBIs each, with Austin's coming off a double and Hollman launching a 2-run homer.

  • Methodist had 18 hits as a team, which is the most this season. Leading the game with three hits was Hollman (3 for 4) and Rob Wilkerson (3 for 4).
