FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. On Friday evening, 16th-ranked Methodist University baseball hosted Pfeiffer University in a USA South Athletic Conference contest. The Monarchs generated some early offense but the Falcons eventually found a way to upset them 7-5 at Armstrong-Shelley Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams were held scoreless for the first two innings before Methodist was able to get on the board in the third. An RBI double by Jacob Austin drove in the opening run of the ballgame followed by Rob Wilkerson driving in Austin on his RBI hit.
- Caleb Rogers made it 3-0 in favor of the Monarchs with his RBI single, in the fourth.
- Pfeiffer was kept off the scoreboard for another inning until Christian Ezzell changed that with one swing. That hit went over the left field fence for a three-run homerun to tie the game at 3-3.
- The Falcons took their first lead, 4-3, of the game in the top of the seventh off an RBI base hit for Zach Ferrell. In the bottom half of the inning, Wilkerson put Methodist back in front with a 2-RBI single.
- The eighth and ninth innings saw the Falcons score three more runs, with RBIs from Alec Bell, Ferrell, and Ezzell.

- Wilkerson led the game with three hits and had a team-high three RBIs for the Monarchs. For Pfeiffer, Ezzell finished with a game-high four RBIs.
- The Falcons starting pitcher, John Owen, would go the distance in this one. He surrendered five runs off nine hits while striking out 10 batters, a career-high, and issuing one walk.
