FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The Methodist University men's tennis team hosted Brevard College on Monday in the first round of the 2023 USA South Men's Tennis Tournament. The number four seed Monarchs proved too much for the number five seed Tornados as they picked up a 9-0 victory at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist took a 3-0 lead following doubles action. The teams of Matthew Hurley & Wills Belser, on court one, and Will Trocchi & Evan Kane, on court three, each won their respective flights by a score of 8-1. In doubles number two, Cameron Roth & Andrew Wood picked up an 8-5 victory.
- Hurley won singles flight one against Bryce Bernitt of Brevard 6-0, 6-0. With a 6-0, 6-1 victory on court five, Monarchs own Trocchi defeated Tornados James Srsich.
- Singles flight two saw Methodist own Belser against Ethan McGee of Brevard, where Belser won 6-2, 6-0. The Monarchs went up 7-0 with Wood's 6-1, 6-3 win over Devin Horton of the Tornados.
- On court four, Roth of Methodist took down Brevard's Noah Lewis 6-2, 6-3. Kane finished off the sweep for the Monarchs by beating JaMarcus Walker 6-3, 6-0 in singles number six.

Methodist heads to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where both the semifinals and finals are being held for the tournament, on Thursday to take on the number one seed/nationally ranked (16) North Carolina Wesleyan University. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m.
