Monarchs Break More Records in Decisive Victory Over Greensboro

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  The Methodist women's lacrosse team took down Greensboro College in dominant fashion on Thursday, defeating the Pride 24-1. The win makes head coach Rebecca Hart the all-time winningest coach in Methodist women's lacrosse history.
 
During the contest, Kayla Nee broke the USA South Athletic Conference record for most assists in a game with 13, topping the previous record of 12. Payton Jones also reached a career milestone, recording her 100th draw control for the Monarchs.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Methodist put the pedal to the metal, easily scoring two goals inside the first minute. The Monarchs tallied 11 scores in the first quarter – three for Mikayla Ramos, two for Payton Jones, two for Tia Marlinghaus, one for Keegan Foyles, one for Layla Wiesenfeld, one for Macey Blackburn, and one for Kennedy Martin.
  • The Monarchs scored three more times to start the second quarter (one each for Wiesenfeld, Blackburn and Martin) before conceding a goal to Greensboro, which made the score 14-1. Wiesenfeld and Martin scored back-to-back goals to close the first half.
  • The home team continued to cruise in the third quarter, totaling six scores: three for Foyles, two for Ramos and one for Blackburn. The Pride were not only held scoreless in the third period, but they didn't take a single shot.
  • Alex Shoffler and Ainsley McGinn found the back of the net for Methodist in the fourth quarter, increasing the margin of victory to 23 goals.  
FAST FACTS 
  • Kayla Nee's 13 assists on the day also boosted her season total to 67, which surpasses the previous USA South single-season record of 64.
  • Keegan Foyles set season highs in goals (4) and points (6).
  • The Monarch defense allowed just two shots on goal over the entire contest.

Methodist returns to Monarch Stadium on Wednesday, April 12 for a USA South battle with the Falcons of Pfeiffer University. Opening draw is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
