FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist University women's soccer was back in action on Sunday afternoon with a non-conference matchup versus Eastern Mennonite University. The Monarchs two first half goals were enough to defeat the Royals by a score of 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist looked a little bit sluggish to being the contest but managed to get into a rhythm and score the first goal of the contest, in the 23rd minute. Brooke Hunter passed the ball up to Yaneli Sanchez running up the left side of the 18-yard box. After taking a couple of steps Sanchez fired a shot that went through the goalie's gloves into the back of the net.
- A couple of minutes later, the 25th, the Monarchs struck again with their second goal this time by Natalia Marshall-Hewitt. Sanchez had possession of the ball running up the near side of the field when she saw a wide-open Marshall-Hewitt. Following the pass Marshall-Hewitt settled the ball and lofted a 22-yard shot into the upper left corner of the goal.
NUMBERS
- Methodist's back line played a stingy defense against Eastern Mennonite as the Royals could only get off four shots with two being on net.
- Aja Laun, Eastern Mennonite's goalkeeper, had her work cut out for her in this contest. Of the 31 total shots by the Monarchs, Laun was able to save 13 of the 15 shots on goal.
- This was the third consecutive year that Methodist has played the Royals as well as the third time the Monarchs have shutout Eastern Mennonite.

Methodist will go on the road for its next two matches starting with a Wednesday night contest against Guilford College. The game between the Monarchs and the Quakers is scheduled for 7 PM.
