Monarchs Shut Out at Home by Hawks

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Playing at home for the first time in October, Methodist University welcomed Huntingdon College to Monarch Stadium on Saturday, in USA South action. The Hawks returned the warm greetings with a shutout victory, 42-0, over the Monarchs.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Huntingdon def. Methodist, 42-0
Records: Methodist 1-5 (1-3 USA South), Huntingdon 3-2 (3-0)
Location: Monarch Stadium; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Huntingdon scored touchdowns on its first two possessions to go out in front 14-0. Fullback/H-Back Brody Covington was on the receiving end of both scores, 20- and 31-yards, from quarterback Dorian Smith.
  • Smith's big passing day continued in the second quarter as he threw for two more touchdowns. A 21-yard reception to wideout RJ White put the Hawks up by three scores, and then a long catch & run by Sam Bloodworth, for 83 yards, made it 28-0.
  • Methodist had a chance to score points right before the end of the first half. A botched Huntingdon punt gave the Monarchs their best field position of the contest at the Hawks' 26-yard line. After gaining no yards on three plays, the field goal team trotted out to attempt a 43-yarder, which was blocked by Huntingdon.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Hawks registered two rushing touchdowns to cap off the scoring. The first was a two-yard plunge by James Cheatham, while Kamern Daniels recorded the other rushing score from one yard out.
MORE TO IT
  • The Methodist offense was held to under 100 total yards for the first time this season, while Huntingdon recorded 448 yards of offense.
  • Freshman CJ Ferguson was the most effective offensive weapon as he registered 63 rushing yards on ten carries, 6.3 yards per rush.
  • Sophomore Anthony Smith led the Monarchs' defense with six tackles followed by a quartet of Methodist defenders, Dacarris Jacobs, Dominic Hyman, Omar Goodwin, and Montravious Willoughby, with five tackles.
