BUENA VISTA, Va. Methodist University men's soccer went on the road on Saturday to play Southern Virginia University in a USA South match-up. This high-scoring affair saw the Knights edge out the Monarchs in their 4-3 victory inside Knight Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Less than three minutes into the contest, Southern Virginia struck first with Benjamin Simister finding the back of the net.
- The next two goals were recorded by Methodist in the 24th and 38th minutes. Sophomore Steven Floyd scored the first Monarch goal after receiving a pass from fellow sophomore Carson Stretz. Then, the rookie tandem of Aidan Cohoon, the goal-scorer, and Mathias Navar worked together to register the second Methodist score.
- A foul by the Monarchs inside of their 18-yard box resulted in a penalty shot being awarded to the Knights. Brock Hester would take the shot, and his one-timer tied up the scoreboard in the 39th minute.
- Methodist did take a 3-2 advantage into the intermission after Floyd scored his second goal in the 41st minute. Assisting Floyd was freshman Tyler Aromin.
- Ultimately, Southern Virginia would score the equalizer and then the game-winning goal in the 65th and 84th minutes, respectively, by Landon Stock and Simister.
NUMBERS
- The Monarchs had chances to score more goals as they outshot the Knights 23 to eight, including a nine-to-five margin in shots on goal.
- For Floyd, this was his first multi-goal contest in his collegiate career.
- Since SVU joined the USA South in 2021, Methodist holds a slight 3-2 meeting edge but is 2-2 in regular-season league games.
