Methodist and Greensboro Play to 0-0 Draw

GREENSBORO, N.C.  Methodist University men's soccer traveled to Greensboro College to take part in a USA South Athletic Conference match on Saturday, and following 90 minutes, the contest concluded in a 0-0 draw.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist tied Greensboro, 0-0
Records: Methodist 6-5-4 (2-1-2 USA South), Greensboro 2-11-3 (0-3-2)
Location: Pride Field; Greensboro, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first 15 minutes saw the Pride take numerous shots, with several that had to be saved by the Monarch keeper, junior Matthew Walker.
  • Freshman Tyler Aromin, who registered a hat trick in Methodist's previous game, recorded the first Monarch shot, which was saved, in the 26th minute. Within the next minute, sophomore Josh Mott and freshman Cameron Lambert also took a shot but neither were on target.
  • Early on in the second half, Aromin and junior Matthew Manzano had some great opportunities to score the first goal of the contest for the Monarchs. Their shots, though, were blocked by Greensboro defenders.
  • After a few more shots on goal by Methodist, Manzano had the last real chance to get the Monarchs on the scoreboard. A foul by the Pride inside of their 18-yard box awarded a penalty kick to Methodist, and Manzano was the player to take it. His shot was one he wished he could retake as he missed the top right corner of the net.
NUMBERS
  • Both teams shot the ball six times a piece in the first half, but in the second half, the Monarchs held Greensboro to just one shot, while Methodist generated nine.
  • For the second time this week, Walker kept another clean sheet. He also made four saves in the match.
  • The Monarchs and the Pride have settled for a draw in three out of their last four meetings.
UP NEXT
Methodist is off for a week before returning to Duggins Soccer Stadium for its final home game of the regular season, and will also be the Monarchs' senior night. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 PM.
