Monarchs Drop USA South Game to Brevard, 44-21

BREVARD, N.C.  Methodist University football was the road team for the last time this season as the team visited Brevard College in a USA South Athletic Conference match-up. With the Tornados 44-21 victory on Saturday, the Monarchs have dropped every road contest in 2024, 0-5.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Brevard def. Methodist, 44-21
Records: Methodist 1-8 (1-6 USA South), Brevard 5-2 (5-1)
Location: Ives-Lemel Family Field; Brevard, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It didn't take long before Brevard claimed an early advantage as Zackary Orr returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. After receiving the ball at the 10-yard line, he ran 90 yards to the house.
  • The Tornados then jumped out to a 34-0 lead midway through the second quarter, with Brevard scoring a touchdown on each of its first four possessions.
  • With 6:34 on the clock, Methodist registered its first points of the ball game, with junior quarterback Ja'Lon Miller finding his freshman wideout, Jaelan Pile, on a 71-yard touchdown reception, the first of his collegiate career.
  • Right before the half, the Tornados scored their fifth offense touchdown of the game, making it 41-7.
  • The third quarter was the lowest-scoring stanza with only three points recorded, a 24-yard field goal by Brevard.
  • The final 14 points were all scored by the Monarchs as Miller connected with sophomore running back Sajari Love on two separate pass plays, two- and 16-yards, for the touchdown.
MORE TO IT
  • In his collegiate start, Miller completed 17 of his 28 passes for 206 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. He also ran the ball for 49 yards on 14 carries.
  • The Monarch receiving group was led by Pile, who made two catches for a career-high 83 yards. Despite his low rushing numbers, ten carries for seven yards, Love had a nice day in the passing game with a team-high four catches, 36 receiving yards, and two touchdowns (career-high).
  • On defense, Methodist was led by junior linebacker Omar Goodwin, who had a game-high 10 tackles.
