VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Picking up the squad's first win of the season, the Methodist women's basketball team dominated on Saturday, outscoring Regent University by 33 points in a 70–37 road victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Royals commanded an early 5–2 lead after sinking a three–pointer for the opening basket. Jillian Peterson answered, canning back–to–back triples that spearheaded a 14–point run in favor of the Monarchs. Alyssa Shazer capped off the first quarter with another make from deep to give Methodist a 20–7 advantage at the end of the first period.
- With the Monarchs leading 26–12, Kiley Hicks caught fire, finding the basket four times in a row to put Methodist up by 22. Kayleen Grullon closed out the first half with a jumper inside the final five seconds that made the score 38–14.
- Peterson and Hicks scored the first two buckets of the second half, but Regent went on to outscore Methodist in the third quarter as the Royals hit twice from behind the arc and cut the difference to under 20 points.
- Hicks and Rebecca McGaughnea combined for the first seven points of the fourth quarter. The Monarchs denied the Royals of any fourth–quarter field goals until there were less than three minutes to go in the period, and Regent would finish just 1–for–14 from the floor in the fourth quarter.

- Kiley Hicks led the Monarchs with a game–high 19 points, which is also her season high. She added six rebounds, a block, an assist and a steal.
- Aneesa Irizarry was the team leader in rebounds (7) and assists (5).
- The Monarchs weren't great from behind the arc (4–for–17) but put together their best shooting day overall, going 27–for–57 from the floor (.474). Still, free throws continued to prove difficult for Methodist to make as the team made just 12 of 24 attempts.
- On defense, the Monarchs held their opponent to a shooting percentage of 16.7% (8–for–48).
