FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  In its first home match of the spring season, the Methodist women's tennis team faced Division II Barton College, falling 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Emma Hulicki and Annabelle Subirats put up a valiant effort as Methodist's No. 2 pair in the doubles round, playing to a 7-7 tie before dropping the tiebreaker 7-2.
• On the No. 3 doubles court, Veva Willocks and Katie Sechrist were first to finish for the Monarchs, falling 8-1. Next, Methodist's No. 1 duo Toni Laney and Caitlin Tihanovich followed, dropping their match 8-3.
• In singles, Subirats (4) played her opponent the closest, losing the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 6-1. Tihanovich (3), fell 6-1 in her first set, but showed improvement with a 6-3 effort in the second set.
• In the top match, Laney (1) was defeated 6-1 in the first set and 6-0 in the second. Hulicki (2) suffered two 6-1 loses in her two sets, while Willocks (5) and Sechrist (6) were swept 6-0 in both sets they played.
