Monarchs Beat Pacers 16-0 as Simpson Pitches Shutout

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Scoring 16 runs in the first USA South game of the season, the Methodist baseball team made a statement with a shutout victory of the William Peace Pacers on Friday. The Monarchs were aided by Tanner Simpson on the mound, as the junior tossed seven scoreless innings in his first collegiate start.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs batted through the entire lineup in the bottom of the first, recording six hits that helped produce five runs. With Methodist ahead 3-0, Caleb Greene launched a triple into right field, sending two runners home.

  • With bases loaded for the Monarchs in the bottom of the fifth, William Peace made a pitching change. The next two Methodist batters drew walks, giving the Monarchs a 12-0 advantage. Austin Rinzel, Tristen Melvin, Jackson Deal and Hunter Hollman all contributed an RBI before the inning ended, inflating the lead to 16 runs.
