Methodist Bounces Back with Series Win Against William Peace

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  With the series between Methodist University baseball and William Peace University split, the Monarchs got the bats going again to take the rubber match against the Pacers, an 8-2 victory on Sunday, March 17. The win gave Methodist its first USA South Athletic Conference series victory of the 2024 season.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist def. William Peace, 8-2
Records: Methodist 10-8 (2-1 USA South), William Peace 5-11 (1-2)
Location: Armstrong-Shelley Field; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With the first two Monarchs runners reaching base in the top of the first, freshman Banks Hartman sacrificed himself to advance them up another base before junior Caleb Rogers drove them home on a 2-RBI single.
  • Junior Hunter Hollman added another Methodist run, on a sacrifice fly, in the second inning. Then in the third, a William Peace throwing error allowed Rogers to score from first base as he was trying to steal second prior to error.
  • The Monarch could have blown the contest wide open during the fourth inning, as they had bases loaded with no outs. The Pacers though minimized the damage and only allowed Methodist to register one run, off a Hartman base hit.
  • Both Rogers and Hollman produced another RBI, in the sixth & seventh respectively, to increase the Monarchs lead to 7-0.
  • William Peace tallied its first runs, of the ballgame, with a two-run homer in the top half of the eighth. During the second part of the eighth, junior Banks Engle brought in the final Methodist run on an RBI single.
MORE STATS
