HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs took a 3-0 match lead after sweeping the Gophers in doubles action. The pairs of Toni Laney and Veva Willocks, on court one, along with Emma Hulicki and Annabelle Subirats, on court two, won their respective flights 8-2.
- In No. 3s, Caitlin Tihanovich and Wilette Rivera Morales were put to the test against their counterparts. After reaching a 7-7 tie, the flight was determined in a tiebreaker, a 7-5 decision by Methodist.
- Laney (6-3, 6-0) and Hulicki (6-1, 6-3) were the first two single matches to get off the court, respectively at No. 1 & No. 2. This also clinched the overall match for the Monarchs, who are now up 5-0.
- Katie Sechrist was defeated, 6-3, 6-4, in the sixth single flight, which gave Goucher its first win of the day. The same set scores were seen again in No. 5 singles but with Methodist own Willocks getting the win.
- On court four, Subirats dropped her first set (6-1) but then took the second set (6-2) to force a super tiebreaker set. A back-and-forth battle ultimately saw Subirats coming up just short, 12-10.
- Like her doubles' match, Tihanovich was once again put through the ringer during her single flight, on court three. Both sets required a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-1), and in the end it was Tihanovich that came out the victor.
