HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist took two out of three double flights to begin the match. The tandem of Emma Hulicki and Annabelle Subirats swept, 8-0, their foes on the number two court. The Monarchs top double's pair of Toni Laney and Veva Willocks played in a much tougher match but still ended up with an 8-6 win.
  • Subirats also had a clean sweep (6-0, 6-0) victory in her singles flight, No. 4. With identical set scores of 6-1, 6-1, Laney and Willocks won their respective matches, on court one and five.
  • Getting Methodist its sixth point was Katie Sechrist, who won in No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1. After losing in doubles, Caitlin Tihanovich was able to taste victory in No. 3 singles. She dropped the opening set 1-6 but then took set two by a score of 6-2. In the decisive super tiebreaker set, she won 6-3.
  • Hulicki's single flight, court two, was not as easy as her doubles match. Her first set required a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4), before avoiding a second consecutive tiebreaker, 7-5, in the second set.
