ROME, Ga. Four more Methodist student-athletes were announced as USA South Athletes of the Week on Monday, representing the baseball, men's lacrosse and women's tennis teams.
Earning 'Baseball Rookie of the Week' honors for the second time,
Brandon Mauger went 8-for-16 at the plate last week, posting an on-base percentage of .600 and a .813 slugging percentage. The freshman scored six runs and recorded three walks, seven RBIs, one stolen base, two doubles and his first collegiate homerun as the Monarchs dropped a stand-alone game against Randolph-Macon and won two out of three games versus USA South foe Greensboro.
For the third time this season,
Kaleb Simpson has garnered the title of Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. In Methodist's lone contest against USA South opponent LaGrange, the sophomore went 15-for-21 on faceoffs and collected eight ground balls during the 16-10 victory.
Earning Methodist's first women's tennis honors of the season,
Toni Laney was named Player of the Week, while
Emma Hulicki was named Freshman of the Week.
Laney earned a 3-0 singles record in the top spot versus Goucher and USA South opponents Pfeiffer and Salem. On the No. 1 doubles duo, she and teammate
Veva Willocks finished 2-1 on the week with wins over Goucher and Salem.
At the No. 2 singles spot, Hulicki also went 3-0 with wins against Goucher, Pfeiffer and Salem. In doubles, she paired with fellow freshman
Annabelle Subirats, posting a 3-0 record versus the same teams.
