FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist University baseball began a three-game USA South Athletic Conference series with Mary Baldwin University on Friday, March 29. In game one, the host Monarchs were held scoreless as the Fighting Squirrels won 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three of the five total Methodist hits came in the first inning, with the first three batters (Jackson Deal, Hunter Hollman, and Banks Hartman) all recording a single. Mary Baldwin's starting pitcher would get out of the inning unscathed after the next two batters hit into a double play and struck out.
- The ballgame remained scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Fighting Squirrels tallied four runs.
- Mary Baldwin registered an additional run in both the seventh and eighth innings, to increase its lead.
- The only other innings where the Monarchs had runners in scoring position was in the third, with Deal on second following a stolen base, and the eighth, with Deal and Hollman on second and third.
STAT FACTS
- Hollman was the only Methodist batter to have multiple hits, going 2 for 4. He also the only Monarch to reach base in every game this season.
- This was the first time Mary Baldwin has defeated Methodist, in series history.
