RALEIGH, N.C. Facing the Pacers of William Peace, the Methodist softball team earned a split result on Friday, winning game one of the doubleheader before dropping game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- The Monarchs wasted no time asserting their presence on offense. After a leadoff single by Alexandra Edwards, Hannah Lovick and Rachel Blanchard recorded back-to-back bunt singles to load the bases.
- A single into right field by Alyssa Rivas brought two runners home to give Methodist a 2-0 advantage, then two at-bats later, Sydney Sizemore delivered a double into center field that scored a third run for the Monarchs.
- Kiersten Margoupis pitched a gem for the Monarchs, conceding just one hit during the first six innings. In the bottom of the seventh, the Pacers recorded their second hit of the game. The runner advanced to third on a fly ball before Methodist was able to out the final batter to secure the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- A bunt by Rivas in the first inning squeezed Edwards in for the first run of the ballgame. The Pacers recorded just one hit in the first two innings but compiled three hits in the third inning to produce a run of their own.
- Methodist scored three runs in the fourth inning, with RBIs by Deven Wenger and Edwards (2). Former Monarch Kim Bordeaux entered to pitch for the Pacers, finishing out the frame.
- William Peace responded with a six-run statement in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 7-4 lead. The Pacers added four more runs in the sixth inning, including a three-run homer.
- Methodist logged just one run in the seventh inning, falling short of victory.
NUMBERS
- All three of Methodist's runs in game one came during the first inning, with five of the team's nine hits also coming in the same frame.
- Alyssa Rivas earned two hits in both games, leading the offense with four hits and three RBIs on the day.
- William Peace's Bordeaux pitched the final 3.2 innings of game two, conceding four hits and just one earned run while earning the win.
