HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- Greensboro nearly claimed an early advantage in the first inning, with bases loaded and two outs, but Methodist hurler Kiersten Margoupis put an end to the threat by striking out a batter to end the inning.
- Following four scoreless innings, the Monarchs were the first team to score a run, in the top half of the fifth. Singles by Haley Downes and Alexandra Edwards had two Methodist runners on base, then Hannah Lovick drove in Downes, from second base, with her hit to right field. Two batters later, Alyssa Rivas drove in two additional Monarch runs on her base hit.
- After getting two outs to start the bottom half of the fifth, two Pride singles and a Methodist error filled the base path from Greensboro. Another base hit then brought in two Pride runners to narrow the Monarchs lead to one-run, 3-2.
- Unable to add any insurance runs in the sixth or seventh, Methodist looked to protect its one-run advantage during Greensboro's final at-bats. The Pride led off with a triple, but Margoupis, of the Monarchs, stood tall and induced a groundout and pop out before striking out the last batter.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Like in Game One, Methodist tallied the first three runs of the second game. In the first inning, Edwards came around to score on a base hit by Rivas. Two innings later, Sydney Sizemore plated a pair of Monarch runs with a 2-RBI double.
- Greensboro registered its first run of the ballgame in the third then took a 4-3 lead, in the fourth, following a three-run homerun.
- In the seventh inning, Sizemore tallied her third RBI of the day to tie the game at 4-4, and force extra innings.
- A Pride miscue allowed Methodist to capitalize and take a 5-4 lead.
- With Greensboro runners on second and third base, a sacrifice fly allowed the runner from third to score. On the same play, the runner from second successfully moved up to third before a Monarch error let the winning run score.
