ELON, N.C. Methodist University women's tennis was on the road Friday afternoon as the team faced Elon University, a Division I institution, in a non-conference match. The Phoenix dominated the match and swept, 7-0, the Monarchs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist's top doubles pair of Toni Laney and Veva Willocks were the first ones off the court following a 6-0 sweep. Playing D-I rules, Elon went ahead 1-0 in the overall match after Caitlin Tihanovich and Katie Sechrist, of the Monarchs, fell 6-2 in No. 3 doubles.
- Freshman duo Emma Hulicki and Annabelle Subirats played the best doubles match for Methodist, on court two. They lost to their counterparts by a score of 6-3.
- Number three, four, and six single flights all resulted in 6-0, 6-0 sweeps for the Phoenix, which put them up 4-0.
- Laney, No. 1 singles, and Hulicki, No. 2, each dropped their respective flights by identical scores of 6-1, 6-0. On the fifth court, Willocks went down 6-0 in the first set but was able to take a game in the second before losing 6-1.
UP NEXT
Following a rigorous non-conference schedule to date, Methodist will have the next 11 days off before starting up USA South Athletic Conference action, with the Monarchs heading to Pfeiffer University. The match is set to begin at 2 PM.
