FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist University women's tennis welcomed USA South Athletic Conference nemesis North Carolina Wesleyan University to the Gene Clayton Tennis Center on Tuesday, April 16. In a competitive match between two founding members of the league, the Battling Bishops got the better of the Monarchs and defeated them 8-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- N.C. Wesleyan won all three doubles matches by scores of 8-6 (No. 1), 8-4 (No. 2), and 8-5 (No. 3).
- After playing in No. 1 doubles, Methodist's Toni Laney also competed in the same position for singles. Losing 2-3 at the time, Laney retired from her flight as she was not at 100% entering the day. Laney's doubles partner, Veva Willocks, played in No. 5 singles, where she fell 2-6, 4-6.
- Squeaking in one game victory was Caitlin Tihanovich during her 0-6, 1-6 lost on court three. The lone win for the Monarchs came in No. 2 singles as Emma Hulicki was victorious 6-4, 6-0.
- Methodist rookies Annabelle Subirats and Katie Sechrist each forced a super tiebreaker in their respective single matches. On court four, Subirats dropped her first set 1-6 but then took set two 6-3. The super tiebreaker was a back-and-forth affair, in which Subirats narrowly lost 0-1 (8-10).
- Similar to Subirats, Sechrist also fell in her opening set, 4-6, to her foe on court six. Sechrist then claimed victory, 6-3, in the second set before falling in the super tiebreaker, 0-1 (5-10).
