HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- A rocky start for Methodist as Southern Virginia scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Fortunately, the Knights starting pitcher also struggled to begin the ballgame, and the Monarchs were able to get two runs back. With bases loaded, Banks Engle was hit by a pitch to force in one run. The next batter was Brandon Mauger, who drove in the other Methodist run with a sacrifice fly.
- Tristen Melvin began the bottom of the second, for the Monarchs, with a triple before Austin Rinzel had a productive out, an RBI groundout. Following a single by Jackson Deal and Hollman drawing a walk, Banks Hartman tied the game up, 4-4, with an RBI base hit. An infield bunt single by Caleb Rogers, to score Hollman, then gave Methodist a 5-4 lead. A second sac fly by Mauger capped off the 4-run inning for the Monarchs.
- Southern Virginia came right back and scored two runs in the third before taking a 7-6 advantage in the top of the fourth.
- The Knights lead was short lived as Methodist produced another four-run inning during its at-bats in the fourth. A bases loaded balk by Southern Virginia knotted the scoreboard up, 7-7, then the Monarchs went up 8-7 after an RBI base hit by Engle. Mauger and Caleb Green each brought in an additional run for Methodist, respectively on a fielder's choice and a sac fly.
- The Monarchs put the ballgame out of reach in fifth as Methodist recorded six more runs, 16-7. In the inning, the Monarchs would record two more sac flys, which includes Mauger tallying his third, to bring the teams' total to five in the contest.
- Between the seventh & ninth innings, the Knights scored four more runs (two in each inning).
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Methodist opened the second game by scoring the first five runs. Hartman (one), Engle (two), and Mauger (one) each had at least one RBI in the third, then Rogers made it 5-0 with a solo blast over the left field fence.
- In the sixth, Southern Virginia broke into the game with a 2-run homerun.
- A pair of costly errors by the Knights, along with a Rinzel RBI single, allowed the Monarchs to add three more runs to their total, 8-2, in the bottom half of the sixth.

- The final run of the day, scored by the Monarchs, came in the eighth inning with Hollman sliding into home on a wild pitch.
