Track & Field Teams Take Third at USA South Outdoor Championships

CONCORD, N.C.  The Methodist track & field teams had an outstanding second day at the USA South Outdoor Championships on Saturday. The Monarchs exceeded expectations, finishing one point shy of second place on the men's side while shattering a fifth-place prediction in the pre-championship poll on the women's side with a third-place finish.
 
The top three finishers in each event earned All-Conference status. Representing Methodist on the All-Sportsmanship team are Patti Busch and Logan Williams.

MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS
  • Logan Wade and Tydrick Stewart finished second and third respectively in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Both also participated on the 4x100 team.
  • Torrey Williams captured first place in the 400-meter dash (50.22 seconds) while Austin Ezzell took the top spot in the 800-meter run (1:56.19).
  • In the 1,500-meter race, Jack Barriger finished third, while Komla Akogo came away with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdle.
  • The Monarchs took first in the 4x100-meter relay, posting a time of 41.68 seconds with a group of Stewart, Wade, Torrey Williams and A'Jani Mainer.
  • In the 4x400-meter relay, Methodist's team of Ezzell, Mainer, Torrey Williams and Rafael Shilengitha took second, finishing just .25 seconds behind Pfeiffer. The Monarchs claimed eight points in the event to Pfeiffer's 10. Had the teams finished in the opposite order, Methodist would have surpassed the Falcons for overall second place on the men's side.
WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS
  • A trio of Monarchs collected four all-conference accolades apiece, showcasing their versatility. Treazure Rosario Watson took second in the 400-meter dash, second in the long jump, and participated on both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams.
  • Brandi Gardner took first place in both the long jump (5.60 meters) and the triple jump (10.90 meters), while also participating in the 4x100 and the 4x400.
  • Taking third in the 100-meter hurdles and the triple jump, Katena Morrison also took second in the 400-meter hurdles and participated on the 4x400 team.
  • Methodist was victorious in the women's 4x100-meter relay, recording a time of 48.83 seconds with a squad made up of Gardner, Rosario Watson, Quierra Hawkins and Imani Kee. In the women's 4x400, the Monarchs narrowly took second with a crew of Gardner, Morrison, Rosario Watson and Patti Busch.
