THE ESSENTIALS
Final score: Methodist def. Greensboro, 23-3
Records: Methodist 14-2, Greensboro 4-13
Location: Monarch Stadium; Fayetteville, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist started with a six-goal advantage before Greensboro recorded its first goal of the contest. Tia Marlinghaus was the only Monarch to score twice in that stretch as Mikayla Ramos, Payton Jones, Rosa Williams, and Maddie Hagler each had one goal. Before the opening quarter was done, Methodist tallied five more scores to enforce the running clock with Jones, Marlinghaus, and Ramos finding the back of the cage again, along with Kayla Nee and Layla Wiesenfeld registering their first goals on the game.
- Scoring three of the five Monarch goals throughout the second period was Marlinghaus to push Methodist's lead to 16-1 at halftime. Kennedy Martin and Erika Henry, the two who scored the other goals, also added their names to the list of Monarch goal scorers.
- After an additional score by Wiesenfled & Ramos to begin the third stanza, Brooke Murrell became the 10th different Methodist player to score a goal. With 8:05 left in the third, the Pride capitalized on a free-position and scored their second goal of the game. The Monarchs eclipse the 20-goal mark following Ramos' second score of the frame.
- In the fourth quarter, Methodist outscored Greensboro 3-1 with Williams, Jones, and Hagler registering the finals goals for the Monarchs.
