NORMAN, Okla.  Following the conclusion of the NCAA Championship, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its 2024 NCAA Division III PING All-American First Team members. Fresh off its 14th national title victory, four of the nine names were from Methodist; Cameron Cappuzzo, Cooper Hrabak, Caleb Ryan, and Chase Walts.

For Cappuzzo this is his second career All-American honor as he improved on his Third Team status from a year ago. This entire season Cappuzzo has been ranked in the top-four of all Division III golfers, while shooting a stroke average of 72.4, a single-season career-low.
 
Hrabak, who finished in second individually at the NCAAs, etched his name in Monarch lore by becoming just the fourth Methodist golfer to be named a First Team All-American four times in his career. He joins Monarch legends Rob Pilewski, Chad Collins, and Adam Horton, two of which (Pilewski & Collins) are in the MU Athletic Hall of Fame. Hrabak has also been ranked as a top-15 golfer, in Division III, during the 2023-24 season.
 
Earning All-American laurels for the first-time in their collegiate careers were Ryan and Walts. These two Monarchs stepped up their game once the spring portion of Methodist schedule began.
 
After finishing in the top-three of two "B" side events, Ryan was elevated to the starting lineup of the varsity team. His success continued with two more top-three placements, including a shared medalist victory at the 2024 USA South Championship, leading up to the NCAAs, where Ryan finished in a tie for 6th. Additionally, he raised his national ranking from 118th, back on February 7, to now the 5th ranked golfer.
 
It was a similar story for Walts as he was inserted into the starting five following a first-place finish at the last "B" side event of the fall. From that point on, he has placed inside the top-20 in five of the six tournaments this spring, including his second medalist win at the Shoals Intercollegiate. Walts was an unranked golfer before the month of March, but his great play this year sky rocketed him all the way up to being the number 1 ranked Division III player.
