FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  The Methodist University Department of Athletics has announced its 2024 Mason Sykes Cup winner, bestowing the honor upon men's golfer Cooper Hrabak.

The award, named for Methodist Hall-of-Fame coach Mason Sykes, has been presented annually to the University's top student-athlete since 1986. Voted on by Methodist's head coaches, the winner must display outstanding athletic achievement while also possessing a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
 
Hrabak had an outstanding 2023-2024 season, culminating with Methodist's NCAA championship victory, which was paced by his runner-up finish individually and made possible by his winning birdie putt on Hole 18 of the final round. He shot 11 strokes under par while the Monarchs collectively finished 21 strokes under par, breaking the previous NCAA Championship record for best team score relative to par after four rounds.
 
Prior to the national championship, Hrabak earned co-medalist honors at the USA South Men's Golf Championship, tying with teammate Caleb Ryan (-7) at the end of the three-day event. His performance contributed toward Methodist setting a record for largest margin of victory ever recorded in the USA South Men's Golf Championship.
 
Hrabak was named to the USA South's All-Conference First Team, while the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) placed him on the All-Region Team. He was also named to the All-American First Team, becoming just the fourth Methodist golfer ever to be named to the All-American First Team four times in a career.
 
Named as one of five finalists for the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, Hrabak finished the season ranked No. 6 among all NCAA Division III golfers nationally. His success was guided by head coach Steve Conley, who was named the 2024 Division III Dave Williams National Coach of the Year.
 
Hrabak becomes the eighth men's golfer to win the Sykes Cup and third in the last seven years. He joins Andre Chi (2022), Larkin Gross (2018), Mike Wesko (2013), Adam Horton (2004), Mike Adamson (1996), Ryan Jenkins (1993) and John McCullough (1990).
