GAME ONE
- The Monarchs started their match against St. Mary's with a statement, taking a 4–1 lead after kills by Savannah Hovander (1) and Jamie Holton (3). Methodist began to take two points for every one point the Seahawks earned, reaching a 23–12 advantage. Holton and Caryln Tanis contributed the final two kills of the set.
- The Seahawks showed fight in the second set, winning the first four points and marching out to an 11–5 lead. The Monarchs responded with a huge momentum shift, taking 10 of the next 12 points to go up 15–13. Almost identically, St. Mary's won 10 of the next 12 points, surging ahead by six, which allowed them to reach 25 first.
- Methodist captured an early lead in the third set, and a kill by Jeanana Fowler made the score 10–7. Up 14–12, the Monarchs earned eight of the next ten points (including four service aces) to push ahead by eight, setting them up nicely to win the set.
- A 3–0 run to start the fourth set benefited Methodist, but the Monarchs found themselves trailing 15–13 midway through the set. Winning the next six points, Methodist kept its foot on the gas, with Fowler recording kills on two of the final three points to help secure the win.
GAME TWO
- The Monarchs could hardly catch their breath from the first match before Shenandoah had captured a 7–2 lead over them, prompting Eddie Matthews to call timeout. Methodist settled in, fighting to within one point (11–10) after back–to–back kills by Fowler and Holton, but a four–point streak for the Hornets led to another timeout for the Monarchs. With Shenandoah leading 21–15, the Monarchs produced eight of the next nine points to pull ahead 23–22, but the Hornets stifled Methodist's comeback attempt and scored the final three points of the set.
- Methodist jumped out in from 6–2 to start the second set, but Shenandoah took the lead with a six–point run. The Monarchs remained poised and after assuming a 12–11 lead, they produced an eight–point run to push ahead 20–11. With seven of the next nine points, Shenandoah fought back, but Methodist's Caryln Tanis finished the set with two final kills.
- A back–and–forth start to the third set was followed by a six–point Methodist run, putting the Monarchs in front 14–9. Fueled by several Jamie Holton kills, the Monarchs maintained the advantage, pushing ahead 18–14. The Hornets challenged, Methodist won the race to 25 with help from a couple of Hornets attack errors.
- The fourth set proved to be Methodist's most efficient of the day, with the Monarchs recording 17 kills and a .412 hitting percentage. A Hovander–Tanis–Hovander kill streak gave the Monarchs a 14–8 advantage for their largest lead of the set. Fowler, Holton and Mahala Carter all chipped in to help push Methodist to victory.
