Methodist University's head baseball coach
Tom Austin has announced the team's schedule for the upcoming 2025 season. With 27 home games, fans will have plenty of opportunities to cheer on the Monarchs at Armstrong–Shelley Field.
Â
The first 17 games on Methodist's schedule all take place on the home dirt, starting with a pair of games against Roanoke College on Feb. 8 and 9. The following weekend, the Monarchs host Hood College in a three–game series, with a doubleheader on Feb. 15 and a single contest on Feb. 16.
Â
The Monarchs welcome teams from the University of Hartford, Hanover College and the University of Mary Washington to town on Feb. 21 to kick off the annual Armstrong Invitational. Methodist will face the Hartford Hawks on the first day of the event, followed by a matchup with the Hanover Panthers on Feb. 22 and a final game against the Mary Washington Eagles on Feb. 23.
Â
Next, Methodist hosts another three–game series, taking on Wheaton College from Massachusetts. The Monarchs and Lyons will play one game on Feb. 28, then compete in back–to–back games on March 1.
Â
The first midweek match of the season will take place on Wednesday, March 5 as Methodist welcomes another team from up north in the form of the Johnson & Wales (Rhode Island) Wildcats. That ensuing weekend, the Monarchs will host their third–straight feline foe as they take on former USA South opponent Piedmont University in a three–game series from March 7–9. Methodist will be looking for redemption against the Lions, who took two out of three against the Monarchs last year in Demorest, Ga.
Â
Completing the homestand with consecutive standalone games, Methodist hosts the Westminster College Titans from Pennsylvania on Tuesday, March 11 before facing a familiar opponent from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in the University of Lynchburg Hornets on Wednesday, March 12.
Â
With all USA South matchups being played in three–game series, the Monarchs open conference play on the road, traveling to Cary to take on the William Peace University Pacers on March 14 and 15 (DH). Methodist then returns home to host the Pride of Greensboro College on March 22 and 23 (DH) before traveling to Staunton, Virginia to face the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University on March 29 (DH) and 30.
Â
Splitting up the USA South slate, the Monarchs make a quick trip to Greensboro on Tuesday, April 1 for a one-off at Guilford College. Back in Fayetteville, Methodist welcomes the Brevard College Tornados on April 5 (DH) and 6.
Â
The Monarchs will face the reigning USA South champs on the road this year, traveling to Rocky Mount for a clash with the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan University. The series will last three days, beginning on Friday, April 11. All games at North Carolina Wesleyan will be
streamed exclusively on FloSports — a subscription–based service.
Â
Returning home for their penultimate USA South series, the Monarchs play the Falcons of Pfeiffer University on Easter weekend, starting with a single game on Friday, April 18 and concluding with two games on April 19.
Â
The following weekend, the Monarchs travel back to the state of Virginia where they'll take on the Southern Virginia Knights in Buena Vista on April 25 and 26 (DH).
Â
Back home for their 40th and final game of the regular season, the Monarchs will host the Randolph–Macon College Yellow Jackets for the first time in three years in a non–conference game on Tuesday, April 29. They'll then have a day of rest before the USA South Tournament begins on Thursday, May 1. The double–elimination–style bracket will continue into Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 if necessary. From there, the two remaining teams will compete in a best–of–3 championship series the following weekend.
Â
Austin's teams have finished the season with a winning record 42 times during his 45–year tenure and have been crowned regular–season conference champions on 15 occasions. Under his direction, Methodist has achieved 30 wins in a season 20 times, including two 40–win seasons.
