HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs held firm defensively through much of the opening half, limiting the Captains' looks on goal until the 40th minute, when CNU's Hanna Heaton capitalized on a turnover near midfield. Breaking free for a one-on-one with the keeper, Heaton slotted the ball to the left post for the 1–0 advantage.
- Just one minute later, Christopher Newport doubled its lead after a foul set up a free kick just outside the box. Brooke White stepped up and lofted her shot perfectly under the crossbar to make it 2–0 heading into halftime.
- The Captains added their final goal in the 69th minute when Katy Bronski worked her way into the box and sent a pass to Alex Dalakis, who finished from close range to push the score to 3–0.
