NEWPORT NEWS, Va. Methodist University women's tennis faced two nationally ranked teams on Saturday. The Monarchs took on host No. 17 Christopher Newport University and then played No. 37 Averett University in a neutral-site match. In both matches, the Monarchs were swept 7–0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
MATCH ONE
- The Captains won the doubles points after winning all three flights. Emma Hulicki/Caitlin Tihanovich were the only Methodist duo to win a game against their opponents, a pair nationally ranked 15th in D-III.
- In singles action, most of the Monarchs lineup was able to claim a game to avoid consecutive set sweeps. Freshman Madelyn Parker had the most impressive showing in No. 6 singles, winning two games in each set (6-2, 6-2).
MATCH TWO
- Methodist found itself down 1–0 in the match after losing the doubles point to the Cougars.
- The Monarchs fared better in singles play against Averett, as only one flight resulted in a clean sweep. Sophomore Katie Sechrist and Parker each lost their respective flights, courts four and six, to their counterpart by identical scores of 6-2, 6-2.
- In No. 3 singles, Tihanovich competed well in her opening set before losing 6-4. She had a tougher time in set two, losing 6-0.
