FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Splitting a doubleheader with Mary Washington University on Monday, the Methodist softball team dropped game one against the Eagles before coming from behind for a walk–off win in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- A solo home run to center field by Rachel Blanchard scored the first run of the contest, marking Blanchard's third homer of the season. Mary Washington matched the score with one run in the second inning, then took the lead in the third after an inside–the–park home run by Hannah Steele. The Eagles extended their lead with an unearned run in the fourth.
- The Monarchs loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fourth, laying way for Amanda Blackburn whose fly ball to right field was dropped, allowing one run to score.
- Former Monarch Emily Angel led off the fifth inning with a home run to left–center field, scoring her team's fourth run of the game. Methodist was able to force the next two batters out, but from there the Eagles piled on four consecutive hits, bringing in three more runs. Methodist scored one run in the fifth and another in the sixth but was unable to erase the deficit.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- With Kiersten Margoupis in the pitcher's circle, the Eagles recorded no hits in the first inning. Conversely, the Monarchs ripped off three hits in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run but leaving the bases loaded at the end of the frame. An RBI double for Hannah Lovick in the second inning gave the home team a 2–0 edge.
- Mary Washington put up a four spot in the top of the third, but Methodist countered with one run in the ensuing frame. A scoreless fourth was followed by a fifth inning in which the Eagles took a 5–3 lead.
- Down two runs, the Monarchs took advantage of two errors by the Eagles, scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at 5–5. The game remained in a deadlock through the sixth and the seventh, with Methodist failing to score despite having bases loaded with only one out in the bottom of the seventh.
- The Monarchs survived a scare in the top of the eighth, then walked off in style with an Alyssa Rivas sacrifice fly that scored Lovick from third.
NUMBERS
- Lynsey Plunkett went 3–for–3 as the designated player in game two, while Haley Downes was a perfect 2–for–2.
- Mary Washington recorded four errors in both games, while the Monarchs tallied just three on the day.
- Margoupis pitched two innings of relief in game one before throwing a complete game and earning the win in the back half of the doubleheader.

The Monarchs return to Price Field on Saturday for a doubleheader with the University of Lynchburg. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
