Methodist Blanks N.C. Wesleyan; Monarchs Did Not Allow a Shot

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.  Methodist University women's lacrosse visited North Carolina Wesleyan University on Tuesday and registered a 22–0 shutout in USA South action. The Monarchs not only blanked the Battling Bishops but also held the opposition to zero shots in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • From start to finish, the Monarchs dominated the game. Kaitlyn Coleman and Maddie Hagler led the Methodist charge in the first quarter, as the team scored nine goals, with Coleman and Hagler each scoring twice.
  • In the second quarter, Hagler and Layla Wiesenfeld recorded four of the five goals before Brooke Murrell registered the fifth Monarch goal of the period. This gave Methodist a 14–0 advantage heading into halftime.
  • The Monarchs would score eight more goals in the third and fourth quarters, four each period.

FAST FACTS

  • Of the eight Methodist goals scored in the second half, three were personal achievements for some players. The first was Lailah Espinal, who scored on her former team; the next was Jenifer Ferreira, who recorded her first collegiate goal; the final was Jazmine Henry, who scored her first goal in over two years, as her last goal was at Chowan University back in February of 2023.
  • Today's shutout was the sixth one in program history (2 in 2005, 3 in 2024, and 1 in 2025).
  • With a career-high five goals, Hagler led the Monarchs' offense. She was among 13 Methodist players to score, including one of four to achieve a multi-goal game.
  • Just like in their last contest, the Monarch goalies of Ashley Fuentes and Victorianna Murray shared time between the pipes. Fuentes got the start and the victory, improving her goalie record to 6-4 this season.
