HOW IT HAPPENED
- An early goal by Gianna Delevan gave Virginia Wesleyan a 1–0 lead, but then Methodist recorded the next two goals, scored by Maddie Hagler and Kennedy Martin. The Marlins' offense controlled the last two minutes of the opening quarter as they registered three straight goals to take a 4–2 advantage.
- After the teams traded goals to start the second quarter, Virginia Wesleyan's Reese Morgenthaler extended her team's lead to three goals, making it 6–3 with her third score of the contest. The Monarchs turned the game around, as Hagler, Erika Henry (twice), Mikayla Ramos, and Martin scored five consecutive goals. This gave Methodist an 8–6 lead at halftime.
- Following a tough first half for the Monarchs' starting goalie, Ashley Fuentes, Methodist decided to switch at the break, bringing in Murray. It was a rough start for Murray at the beginning of the third quarter, as the Marlins scored three goals in just 25 seconds. The next three goals for Methodist came from free position shots—two by Kaitlyn Coleman and one by Martin—putting the Monarchs back in front at 11–9. Before the third quarter ended, Virginia Wesleyan managed to score two more goals against Murray, tying the game.
- The fourth quarter belonged entirely to Methodist, as the offense scored three more goals to secure the victory, while Murray locked in and stopped every shot she faced. The three goal scorers for the Monarchs were Coleman, Ramos, and Macey Blackburn. During that final period, the Marlins had six shots on target, including four free position shots, but none got past Murray.
